Phonotacticon

Phonotacticon is a cross-linguistic database that contains syllabic phonotactic information about spoken lects (linguistic varieties), including the possible forms of the onset, nucleus and coda of each lect, as well as the phonemic and tonemic inventories.

The CLLD web application serves Version 1.0 of the Phonotacticon database. For this purpose, the original data was first converted to Cross-Linguistic Data Formats and then included into the web application that allows for interactive browsing. To explore the data, you can inspect the distribution of individual sounds in geographics space, by checking the Sounds tab and then clicking on individual sounds. If you click on the Lects tab, you can inspect sound inventories and sound sequences for individual varieties in the database.

The conversion of the original data to Cross-Linguistic Data Formats as well as the web application were created by Johann-Mattis List, who also manages the online publication of the database through the Chair for Multilingual Computational Linguistics at the University of Passau.
